Equine Facilitated Wellness Equine Facilitated Wellness involves partnering with horses to promote emotional, mental, and physical health. How to refer someone Equine Facilitated Wellness Referrals for our Equine Facilitated Wellness programme are invited on behalf of children and young people with vulnerabilities, aged between 5 to 18 years of age, who are experiencing personal challenges including low self-esteem or confidence, low resilience, relationship struggles, emotional regulation, experience of trauma or family breakdown, bereavement or trouble with communication. Referral Procedure Stable Life is a charity that empowers young people to reach their full potential through the transformative power of horses. In a safe and nurturing environment, we use equine facilitated wellness to help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and overcome challenges. • About Us | Stable Life

About us At Stable Life we utilise equine facilitated wellness programmes to support young people with vulnerabilties in the Scottish Borders who are experiencing challenges. We are based on a beautiful farm surrounded by rolling hills and we are lucky enough to have some of the kindest ponies we know to help us to do our work. We also offer riding lessons and hacking in the hills. Supporting our young people For most young people growing up is a fairly smooth and natural process but for others this couldn’t be further from reality. Sometimes a young person’s circumstances and related behaviour can push them to feel isolated or excluded from their school and community. This can lead to anti-social and risk-taking behaviour, substance abuse, mistrust of adults and a failure to realise and reach their full potential. Stable Life helps young people to break the cycle of damaging behaviour or feelings of helplessness. We offer youngsters a proven and trusted medium which encourages self reflection and promotes resilience. Working with horses Our programmes are based on a model of Equine Facilitated Wellness using the Theory of Change which we have developed into a person-centred package using the horse and its environment to engage with each young person who attends. We run a team of dedicated staff who work to support young people and their families in either a group setting or on an individual basis. We also have a number of trained personnel from adult volunteers to peer mentors who support our project workers. We also support young people in their transition looking towards college and employment by offering practical work experience opportunities. How it works How to refer someone Young people can be referred to use from across Scottish Borders by anyone; referrers often include people from a young person’s school, or social work team, a GP, an individual from CAMHS or parents or carers. Read more about the referral process for Stable Life. Referrals Theory of change Starting with small achievements and working up, our Theory of Change sets out how individuals who are struggling can slowly grow in confidence, and begin to see demonstrable improvements both in their mental health and their abilities in the wider world. Our theory of change Our history Stable Life has been supporting young people in The Scottish Borders for over a decade. Read more about the history behind the charity, and how we came to be at Dryden Farm Our history "My boy has absolutely loved coming. He has faced his fears, made friends and opened up about previous trauma and at the same time found something that he loves. His learning to keep himself safe skills have really improved and his confidence has sky rocketed. I cannot thank you guys enough" - Feedback from a Parent

  • Help us find some new ponies for Stable Life with The Big Give!

This week is #mentalhealthawerenessweek and this year's theme is Movement: Moving for our mental health. Moving more can increase your energy, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost your self-esteem. We certainly see this with the young people who we work with here at Stable Life. All our ponies also play a vital part in supporting the mental health of our young people, and we coudn't do the work we do without these special equine team members. Over the last year our pony herd has reduced as Rose and Harry went off for their well earned retirements, and this year we will see a further reduction as a couple of our other ponies also look to retire. Therefore we need to find a few more equine team members to enable us to continue to deliver our services, and we need your help on this. We are pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of the charities to be supported through the Big Give #Kind2Mind campaign. This means they will double donations that we receive from now up until the 28th May. Therefore if we reach our target of £2,500 over the next two weeks that money will will be doubled to £5,000 and we will be able to go out and find a new pony to help us to do all the work we are passionate about here at Stable Life. If you are able to donate anything to help us reach our target and help us keep the herd at Stable Life big enough to support our projects we would be forever grateful. • Welcome to our new website!

Hello and thanks for visiting our new Stable Life website - we have helped hundreds of young people across the Scottish Borders in over a decade, as well as launching as a commerical riding school and helping lots of people to learn to ride, thanks to our lovely horses and ponies. This month we have relaunched our website with the aim of explaining what we offer here in terms of the charity - our equine facilitated wellness projects - and our riding school which offers horse riding lessons and fun clubs and hacks for our Hoofbeats members. Our new site has a full explanation about how our charity's project works to support the young people of the Scottish Borders who are facing challenging situations. You can find out how to refer a young person to us so we can find out whether they're suitable for Stable Life, and begin the process of working together, or you can find out how to get onto our riding school system and start book lessons and hacks in our glorious countryside. Finally you can hop online and spend some time getting to know our most important team members, our equine friends! See pictures of our ponies and horses, and if you want to you can even sponsor a pony! We hope you find it easy to get hold of all the information you've been looking for here, and we look forward to seeing you at the yard soon.
